The Institute for Sports Physiotherapy and Performance delivers coordinated care across physiotherapy, sports medicine, performance training, and recovery. Services are provided by professionals with advanced training in sport and exercise medicine, supporting individuals of all activity levels — from competitive athletes to those seeking to restore mobility and function in daily life.
Care is delivered by qualified professionals with specialized training in sport, exercise, rehabilitation, and performance. Each discipline contributes to a coordinated system designed to support assessment, treatment, recovery, and long-term function.
Many clinics state they treat athletes and sports injuries. Fewer than 150 practitioners in Canada have completed the additional training required to become a Registered International Sports Physiotherapist.
This designation reflects advanced education and clinical experience in sports injury management and performance-focused rehabilitation.

Certified Athletic Therapists (CAT(C)s) provide a mix of on-field emergency services and clinical treatments tailored to active individuals, ranging from professional athletes to industrial workers and weekend warriors.
IIn the clinical setting, Athletic Therapists overlap heavily with Physiotherapists, using similar techniques while focusing on “return-to-play” or “return-to-work” reconditioning. When on-field they are uniquely trained in emergency injury management, supportive taping and bracing and concussion assessment.
Physiotherapists assess, diagnose, and treat movement and functional limitations caused by injury, illness, or chronic conditions.
Treatment may include exercise prescription, manual therapy, and patient education to restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve overall function.
Registered Massage Therapists use hands-on techniques to relieve muscle tension, reduce pain, improve circulation, and support recovery.
While massage is often associated with relaxation, therapeutic, deep tissue, and sports massage can assist in injury management and contribute to overall performance and well-being.
Strength and Conditioning Coaches develop individualized, structured programs to support injury recovery, prevent future issues, and achieve fitness or sport-specific goals.
These professionals have completed significant training through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and are not typical gym-based trainers.
Personal Trainers at the Institute have completed appropriate schooling and are in the process of completing NSCA examinations.
Sports Dietitians provide expert guidance on nutrition and lifestyle to support health, manage conditions, and optimize performance.
Personalized nutrition plans are developed to align with individual goals and sport-specific demands. Proper nutrition plays a critical role in tissue healing and is essential for athletes seeking to fuel effectively for training and competition.
Treatment at the Institute for Sports Physiotherapy and Performance is built on an in-depth and detailed assessment, evidence-informed techniques, and active patient involvement. Every plan is tailored to the individual, with an emphasis on resolving symptoms, restoring function and supporting long-term recovery and performance
Understanding your injury is a critical part of recovery.
Patients are guided through what is happening, why it is happening, and how treatment will address it. Long-term, sustainable improvement requires active participation, and education ensures patients are equipped to put in the work necessary for meaningful change.
Manual therapy and exercise-based rehabilitation form the foundation of treatment at ISP.
While modern modalities such as TENS and ultrasound are available, they are used only as adjuncts to the precision care at ISP. The primary focus remains hands-on assessment and treatment with structured exercise progression.
Treatment plans are developed using established protocols, current research, and clinical experience — tailored specifically to your injury, your goals, and your performance demands.
(Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy – ESWT)
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in injured muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints.
It is commonly used for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, and certain shoulder tendon injuries.
Traditional acupuncture is used to reduce pain, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing processes through stimulation of the nervous system and related physiological responses.
Dry needling is an evidence-based technique that targets muscle trigger points using thin needles to reduce tension, relieve pain, and improve movement by normalizing muscle and nerve function.
Structured screening based on strength, movement patterns, and joint mobility can help reduce the risk of sport-related injuries.
Screening is typically conducted in the off-season and may be performed by a Sports Physiotherapist. Findings can inform the development of an off-season training program in collaboration with a Strength and Conditioning Coach — helping prepare athletes for the upcoming season and reduce time spent sidelined.
